Eoin McCarthy Head of Education

 

Eoin, is a men’s hair stylist & educator that originates from Cork, Ireland. Eoin transitioned into the hair industry 6 years ago after a career as a professional cyclist in Europe. When retiring from pro cycling Eoin took interest in the world of hair inspired by his mother who is a very successful hairdresser in Ireland. Although influenced by hairdressing, Eoin focused fully on men’s hair. 

In his first year as a stylist he was awarded the title of 2016 Irish Barbering Apprentice of the Year. After building his experience & reputation in Ireland Eoin set his sights on Australia & found himself a job at Area Studio. Eoin then had an opportunity to expand his skill set & find his unique style of men’s haircutting in a multi-talented international team of stylists. Eoin was awarded Victorian Barber of the Year for 2017 after placing 1st in the Victorian/SA Live Barber Battle. He placed two times second place at the 2017 HBIA Australian Hairdressing Championships in the Men’s Trend & Men’s Sport live cutting competitions & contributed to Area Studio winning the HBIA Small Salon of the Year for both 2017 & 2018 & was Runner-Up in the 2019 HBIA Men’s Trend Competition. 

Just over 6 years into his career Eoin is now running one of Australia’s leading up skilling facilities, AREA Academy, he is an Global Educator & Brand Ambassador for Andis Clippers as well as being an Osaka Scissors Ambassador. He is also an educator for the worldwide movement of Hair Slayerz set-up & founded by one of his original mentor’s Paul Mac. 

Eoin actively educates, demonstrates & judges at many hair exhibitions in Australia & Worldwide such as the Asian Hair Expo Shanghai (China) 2018 & Guangzhou 2019 as well as having been a part of Hair Expo Australia’s Education Programme (as a solo artist) presenting his “Perspective” seminar in 2019. Eoin has & has had many celebrity clients such as music artists & sporting stars. Most notably cutting hair at Justin Bieber’s Purpose World Tour, The Weeknd’s Starboy World Tour & Post Malone’s World Tour.

In 2020, Eoin has had his introduction into the editorial side of the industry by creating his first collection “Unity in Diversity” which featured on the cover of internationally renowned magazine Estetica in the USA, as well as multiple magazines in The Netherlands, Ireland, the UK & here in Australia. Going forward he will be a regular contributor for the Australian Cutthroat Journal Barber Magazine & will be an advisor for the Australian Hairdressing Council. In 2020 “Unity In Diversity” was awarded International Men’s Collection Winner at the BEST of the BEST awards, it was also nominated as Finalist for the Alternative Hair Show International Visionary Awards, World Barber of the Year & AHFA (Australian Hair & Fashion Awards) Industry Choice Award.

Eoin has had involvement in multiple charitable organisation since coming to Australia. He is part of “The Streets Barber” movement in which he helps give homeless people hope through the human connection of a haircut. He also set up & ran multiple charity events for the Jack Reed Foundation across Australia. The JRF is an organisation that helps disadvantaged youth living in at risk area’s an opportunity to start a career in hair. Eoin created a hair event called “RE:CONNECT” & gave 100% proceeds to the charity over x3 events (so far)

Most recently, Eoin has signed a partnership agreement with Dyson for AREA Academy & will soon launch the academy’s online platform - “The Network”.
